Atlernate Materials used in BoM

Updated May 18, 2018

Dear Friends,

We are in the process of implementing ECC 6. I am the team lead for PP & PM modules. We are facing a typical problem and need your help. We are basically heavy engineering company and follow discrete manufacturing.

1. We have a BoM which is normally multi level and contain bought out raw materials, in-house produced semi-finished goods as well as out sourced semi-finished goods.

2. A BoM may contain alternative components for a parent item. EG. Starter Motor is a parent item in the BoM, we have multiple suppliers for starter motors (with different codes because the cost, warranty etc are different for different vendors).

3. We expect material staging to happen based on the available stock.

Scenario :

Item Code XYZ is for the starter motor supplied by vendor ABC, XYZ1 & XYZ2 are alternative to XYZ and supplied by ABC1 and ABC2.

Required quantity for XYZ in production order is 100 where as we have stock of XYZ only 20, but there is a stock available for XYZ1 50, and XYZ3 40.

How can I fulfill the requirement to the production order with the available stock of XYZ, XYZ1 and XYZ3.

    Hi,

You use the alternative group functionality in your BOM Maintenance( CS01 or CS02)
As soon as you enter an alternative item group, you see an additional dialog box with the following data: ranking order, strategy, usage probability.

You can maintain alternative items in the following situations:

Alternative positions with specific usage probability
These alternative items are incorporated with a specific usage probability. Enter the usage probability for each alternative item in the group, so that:
dependent requirements are determined in requirements planning
dependent requirements are changed to a reservation in the production order
    Alternative positions as information
You can enter an alternative item for information purposes. This item would then, for example, only be taken into account in situations involving missing parts.
As there should be neither dependent requirements nor a reservation for this item, enter no usage probability.

    Jay,

You must not have understood the question.

The need is to fulfill the XYZ requirement with ABC, and ABC1, and ABC2, all combined together to make up the needed quantity of xxx.

As I understand AIG, it doesn't support this function.
